Indeed, I remembered you amid the foaming sea,
so I laughed at the terror of menacing death.

In exile's loneliness, I found solace in a star
that rose, like your face, from the temple's recesses.

So I knew that you remember, and that I

إنيindeed I لأشعرُI am certainly aware فيin النَّوىseparation بخسارتيof my loss
والمرءُand a person لاnot يهتمُّcares ماso long as لمhas not يفقدlost
Indeed, in separation I am keenly aware of my loss,
and one takes no heed until one has lost.
