طربتُI thrilled لصوتِto the voice of المجدِglory حينَwhen دعانيit called me
فأسمعنيso it made me hear قلبيmy heart صهيلَthe neighing of حصانِa horse
I thrilled to the voice of glory when it called me.
So my heart made me hear a horse's neigh—
صهيلَthe neighing of حصانِa horse طالماoften شَهدَwitnessed الوَغىbattle
وباهىand boasted بجرحَيof two wounds from شفرةٍa blade وسِنانand a spearhead
The neigh of a horse that had often seen battle
And boasted of two wounds, from blade and spearhead.
لقدindeed ضاقwas too narrow صَدريmy breast عنfor جنانٍa heart حملتُهُI bore it
كبيراًgreat وبأسيand my valor ضاقَwas too narrow عنهُfor it جَنانيmy heart
Indeed, my breast was too narrow for the heart I bore,
So great—and my heart was too narrow for my valor.
