فذكرتُ زهراً في الصباح تنثَّرا
I saw my face pale yellow in the mirror,
I saw my face yellow in the mirror
So I recalled flowers scattered in the morning.
And I remembered a flower scattering in the morning

ما كان من عهد الشباب وما جرى
When I passed by Lubna’s house, she did not recognize
When I passed by Lubna's house, she did not recognize me
What had been in youth’s days, and what had passed.
What was from the days of youth and what has passed

And I studied my face; then her eye met
And I looked at my face, and her eyes met
Mine, and her tears began streaming down.

فلقد عَهدتُكَ غُصنَ وردٍ مُزهِرا
And she took pity on me, saying, “What is this wasting illness?
She grieved for me, saying "What is this sadness?"
For I once knew you as a rose bough in bloom.
For I knew you as a blossoming rose branch

والزهرُand the flowers قبلَbefore أوانهِits proper time قدalready نوَّراbloomed
والزهرُ قبلَ أوانهِ قد نوَّرا
So I answered her, “Indeed, feeling has melted me,
So I answered her "Feelings melted me away
And the flowers have already bloomed before their time.”
And the flower bloomed early before its time"
