I myself touched the brightest of the stars,

And I said, “Illuminate this darkness.”

Do those who envy me deny my merit and my virtue,

When radiance has overflowed from my words?

Have you not heard prose like the stroke of an Indian-steel sword,

And verse like waves that never cease to roar?

So say, when the eagle takes flight, soaring:

“We have known you—lofty in thought and in your nesting places.”
