ما أجملَ التغريدَ والطيرانا

والحبُّ يفتحُ مقلةً وجنانا

How beautiful is the twittering and flying

And love opens an eyelid and gardens

فأنا السجينةُ والطيورُ طليقةٌ

تتعهَّدُ الأوكارَ والأغصانا

So I am the captive and the birds are free

Tending to burrows and branches

الحبُّ هذَّبني فقلبي شيّق

يتعشَّقُ الأنوارَ والألحانا

Love has refined me so my heart is ardent

Enamored with lights and melodies

إني أحنُّ إلى أليفٍ صَوتُهُ

ما زالَ بينَ أضالِعي وَنّانا

Indeed I yearn for a beloved whose voice

Still echoes entreatingly through my ribs
