Flowers, to me, are the best of gifts.

For as I breathe their scent, I recall the pledge.

Indeed, I greet a garden, fresh and untouched,

Where I gathered roses for your breast.

And with a kiss—the flowers bear me witness—

You gave me hope; so remember the promise.

If illness has wasted your body,

Then my heart is sick with separation.

I send you a bouquet, and whenever

You gain in health, you deepen my affection.

A sign of healing lies in its freshness,

And the sweetness of your name brings good fortune.

How often rapture stirred me at its sound,

So through it I became a sweetly singing poet.

For it has, upon my heart and in my ear,

A resonance that melts my inmost soul with longing.

I repeat it always; it is refreshing to me

As water, and sweet as honey in my mouth.
