وماand what فيin القدِّthe figure منof ثمرٍfruit شهيِّluscious
By the dewy blossoms on your cheek,
With the softness in her cheek, so tender,
And the luscious fruit in your figure,
And the fruitfulness of her form, so slender,
أظلّينيshade me بشعرٍwith hair فوقَabove ثغرٍa mouth

Shade me with hair above your lips,
Shelter me with hair above the lips
Like a willow over clear water.
Like a willow over water pure and clear,
لأجلكِfor your sake شاقنيstirred my longing القرآنُthe Qur’an يُتلىis recited
وتأذينُand the call to prayer الصبائحِthe mornings والعشيِّand the evening
For your sake, the Qur’an’s recitation stirred my longing,
For you the Quran's song has led me here,
And the morning and evening calls to prayer.
Morning and evening my ears draw near,
وأعذَبُand the sweetest ماwhat يُكرِّرهُrepeats it لسانيmy tongue
صلاتيmy prayer of blessing والسلامُand peace علىupon النبيِّthe Prophet
And the sweetest thing my tongue repeats
And sweetest of all that my tongue repeats
Is my prayer of blessing and peace upon the Prophet.
Are my prayers and peace upon the Prophet.
