And a reproachful woman said, “You have been sullied with mud.”

So I said to her, “O Mayy, my foot has stumbled.”

I wished for reform and knowledge for an ignorant man,

but he said, “We are content with folly and ignorance.”

And when I saw baseness raising its voice,

I grieved for the people of virtue and merit.

My contempt will kill him, for I

see the sword as meant for the noble, and the whip for the base man.
