ياO أيُّهاyou النَّاسُthe people قُولواsay أجمَعِينall of you معاًtogether
يا أيُّها النَّاسُ قُولوا أجمَعِين معاً
صلَّىmay bestow blessings الإلهُGod علىupon مُوسىMusa بنson of دَاودِDawud
صلَّى الإلهُ على مُوسى بن دَاودِ
O people, all of you, say together:
O people, say, all of you together:
May God bless Musa son of Dawud!
May God bless Musa son of Dawud.
كأنّas though دِيباجَتَيthe two silken surfaces of خَدَّيهِhis cheeks مِنof ذَهَبٍgold
كأنّ دِيباجَتَي خَدَّيهِ مِن ذَهَبٍ
إذاwhen تَشَرَّفَappears فيin أثوابِهِhis robes السُّودِblack
إذا تَشَرَّفَ في أثوابِهِ السُّودِ
The two silken planes of his cheeks seem made of gold
The silken surfaces of his cheeks seem made of gold
when he appears resplendent in his black robes.
When he appears in his black robes.
أمّاas for أبُوكَyour father فَعَينُthen the very essence of الجُودِgenerosity نَعرِفُهُwe know him
أمّا أبُوكَ فَعَينُ الجُودِ نَعرِفُهُ
وأنتَand you أشبَهُmost similar خَلقِcreatures of اللهِGod بالجودِto generosity
وأنتَ أشبَهُ خَلقِ اللهِ بالجودِ
As for your father, we know him as generosity’s very fountain;
As for your father, we know him as generosity itself;
and you, of all God’s creatures, most resemble generosity itself.
And of all God's creatures, you most resemble generosity.
نُبّئتُI was told أنَّthat طَريقَthe road to الحَجِّthe pilgrimage مَعطشَةٌa place of thirst
نُبّئتُ أنَّ طَريقَ الحَجِّ مَعطشَةٌ
مِنَfor lack of الطِّلاءِcooked grape wine وَمَاand not شُربيmy drinking بِتَصرِيدِwith scant drinking
مِنَ الطِّلاءِ وَمَا شُربي بِتَصرِيدِ
I have been told that the road to the Hajj leaves one parched
I was told the pilgrimage road leaves one thirsty
for wine—and I am not one to drink sparingly.
For lack of wine—and I do not drink sparingly.
واللهِby God ماnot بيَin me مِنany خَيرٍgoodness فَتَطلُبُنِيso you would seek me
واللهِ ما بيَ مِن خَيرٍ فَتَطلُبُنِي
فيamong المُسلِمينَthe Muslims وَمَاand not دِينيmy faith بِمَحمُودِat all praiseworthy
في المُسلِمينَ وَمَا دِيني بِمَحمُودِ
By God, there is no good in me that you should seek me out
By God, there is no goodness in me to make you seek me out
among the Muslims, and my faith is nothing to praise.
Among the Muslims; nor is my faith praiseworthy.
إنّيindeed I أَعُوذُseek refuge بِداودٍin Dawud وتُربَتِهِand his grave
إنّي أَعُوذُ بِداودٍ وتُربَتِهِ
مِنfrom أنthat أَحُجَّI perform the pilgrimage بِكُرهٍagainst my will ياO ابنَson of دَاودِDawud
مِن أن أَحُجَّ بِكُرهٍ يا ابنَ دَاودِ
I seek refuge in Dawud and the earth of his grave
Indeed, I seek refuge in Dawud and his grave
from being made to perform the Hajj against my will, O son of Dawud!
From making the pilgrimage against my will, O son of Dawud.
