ياO قومُpeople إنّيindeed I رَأيتُI saw الفِيلَthe elephant بَعدَكُمُafter you
يا قومُ إنّي رَأيتُ الفِيلَ بَعدَكُمُ
لاnot بَارَكَbless اللهُGod ليfor me فيin رُؤيَةِseeing الفِيلِthe elephant
لا بَارَكَ اللهُ لي في رُؤيَةِ الفِيلِ
O my people, after leaving you, I saw the elephant;
O people, indeed I saw the elephant after you.
May God never bless me with the sight of the elephant.
May God grant me no blessing in seeing the elephant.
أبصَرتُI beheld قَصراًa palace لهit has عَينٌan eye يُقَلِّبُهاit turns it about
أبصَرتُ قَصراً له عَينٌ يُقَلِّبُها
فَكِدتُso I almost أرميcast بِسَلحيwith my excrement فيin سَرَاوِيليmy trousers
فَكِدتُ أرمي بِسَلحي في سَرَاوِيلي
I beheld a palace with an eye that it kept rolling about,
I beheld a palace with an eye it kept turning about.
and I nearly flung my weapon into my trousers.
So I nearly shat in my trousers.
