ألا أبلغ لَدَيكَ أبَا دُلامَه

ألا أبلغ لَدَيكَ أبَا دُلامَه

فَلَيسَ مِنَ الكِرامِ وَلا كَرَامَه

فَلَيسَ مِنَ الكِرامِ وَلا كَرَامَه

Now carry this message to Abu Dulama:

Listen: tell Abu Dulama there with you:

He is neither one of the noble nor possessed of nobility.

For he is not among the noble, nor is there honor in him.

إذا لَبِسَ العِمَامَةَ كانَ قِرداً

إذا لَبِسَ العِمَامَةَ كانَ قِرداً

وَخِنزِيراً إذا نَزَعَ العِمَامَه

وَخِنزِيراً إذا نَزَعَ العِمَامَه

When he puts on a turban, he is a monkey,

When he puts on the turban, he is a monkey,

and a pig when he takes the turban off.

And a pig when he takes off the turban.

جَمَعتَ دَمَامةً وجَمَعتَ لُؤماً

جَمَعتَ دَمَامةً وجَمَعتَ لُؤماً

كَذَاكَ اللُّومُ تَتبَعُهُ الدَّمَامَه

كَذَاكَ اللُّومُ تَتبَعُهُ الدَّمَامَه

You have amassed ugliness, and amassed baseness;

You have gathered ugliness and gathered baseness.

such is baseness: ugliness follows it.

Thus baseness is followed by ugliness.

فإن تَكُ قَد أصَبتَ نَعِيمَ دُنيَا

فإن تَكُ قَد أصَبتَ نَعِيمَ دُنيَا

فلا تَفرَح فَقَد دَنَتِ القِيامَه

فلا تَفرَح فَقَد دَنَتِ القِيامَه

Even if you have attained the pleasures of this world,

So if you have already attained this world's bliss,

do not rejoice—the Resurrection has drawn near.

Then do not rejoice, for the Resurrection has drawn near.
