لِعَلِيِّ بنِ صَالِحِ بنِ عَلِيّ

لِعَلِيِّ بنِ صَالِحِ بنِ عَلِيّ

حَسَبٌ لَو يُعِينُهُ بِسَمَاحِ

حَسَبٌ لَو يُعِينُهُ بِسَمَاحِ

Ali son of Salih son of Ali

For Ali son of Salih son of Ali

has ancestral honor—if only he upheld it with generosity.

It would suffice if he supports with generosity

ومَواعِيدُهُ الرِّيَاحُ فَهَل أن

ومَواعِيدُهُ الرِّيَاحُ فَهَل أن

تَ بِكَفَّيكَ قَابِضٌ للرِّياحِ

تَ بِكَفَّيكَ قَابِضٌ للرِّياحِ

And his promises are winds—so can you

And his promises are the winds, so is it possible

grasp the winds with both your hands?

For you to grasp the winds with your palms?

وَبَنُو صَالِحٍ كثِيرٌ وَلكِن

وَبَنُو صَالِحٍ كثِيرٌ وَلكِن

ما لَنَا في عَدِيدهِم مِن صَلاحِ

ما لَنَا في عَدِيدهِم مِن صَلاحِ

And Salih's sons are many, yet

And the sons of Salih are many, but

there is no good for us in their multitude,

We have no righteousness in their multitude

غَيرَ فَضلٍ فإنَّ لِلفَضلِ فَضلاً

غَيرَ فَضلٍ فإنَّ لِلفَضلِ فَضلاً

مُستَبِيناً على قُرَيشِ البِطَاحِ

مُستَبِيناً على قُرَيشِ البِطَاحِ

except Fadl, for Fadl's superiority

Except virtue, for virtue has a virtue

over the Quraysh of the lowlands is plain.
