ياOh رُبَّmany a ماthing that يُخشىis feared وَلاyet does not يَضيرُcause harm
يا رُبَّ ما يُخشى وَلا يَضيرُ
شَيئاًat all وَقَدand indeed ضاقَتhave tightened بِهِbecause of it الصُدورُthe breasts
شَيئاً وَقَد ضاقَت بِهِ الصُدورُ
Oh, many a thing is feared, yet does no harm
O Lord, nothing is feared or harms
At all, though breasts have tightened over it.
When hearts are weary of it
كَمhow many مِنof صَغيرٍa young person عَقلُهُhis mind كَبيرُgreat
كَم مِن صَغيرٍ عَقلُهُ كَبيرُ
وَمِنand of كَبيرٍan older person عَقلُهُhis mind صَغيرُsmall
وَمِن كَبيرٍ عَقلُهُ صَغيرُ
How many a young person has a great mind,
How many small minds are great
And many an older person has a small mind.
And how many great minds are small
وَفيand in البُحورِthe seas تَغرَقُdrown البُحورُthe seas
وَفي البُحورِ تَغرَقُ البُحورُ
وَاللَهُand God رَبّيmy Lord واحِدٌone قَديرُalmighty
وَاللَهُ رَبّي واحِدٌ قَديرُ
And in the seas, the seas drown.
In oceans, oceans drown
And God, my Lord, is One, almighty.
And Allah is my Lord, the Capable One
تَجريrun their course كَماas يَشاؤُهُHe wills it الأُمورُthe affairs
تَجري كَما يَشاؤُهُ الأُمورُ
لَيسَthere is not لَهُfor Him فيin فِعلِهِHis action مُشيرُan adviser
لَيسَ لَهُ في فِعلِهِ مُشيرُ
Affairs run their course as He wills.
Things go as He wills them to go
He has no adviser in what He does.
He has no advisor in His acts
وَلاand not تُغَيِّرُalter كَونَهُHis being الدُهورُthe ages
وَلا تُغَيِّرُ كَونَهُ الدُهورُ
عَنfrom أَمرِهِHis command المَيسورُwhat is easy وَالمَعسورُand what is difficult
عَن أَمرِهِ المَيسورُ وَالمَعسورُ
And the ages do not alter His being.
And time does not change His being
From His command come ease and hardship.
