عَايَنتُI beheld مِنكُمthrough you أَبَاO Abu (father of) النَّعِيمِal-Na‘im (bliss)
عَايَنتُ مِنكُم أَبَا النَّعِيمِ
فِيin رَوضَةٍa garden نَضرَةَthe radiance of النَّعِيمِbliss
فِي رَوضَةٍ نَضرَةَ النَّعِيمِ
Through you, Abu al-Na‘im, I beheld
In a garden the radiance of bliss.
تَسيلُflows كَفُّكَyour hand بالعَطَايَاwith gifts
تَسيلُ كَفُّكَ بالعَطَايَا
كالسَّيِلlike a torrent مِنfrom جُودِكَyour generosity العَمِيمِall-embracing
كالسَّيِل مِن جُودِكَ العَمِيمِ
Your hand flows with gifts,
Like a torrent, from your all-embracing generosity.
وَجَّهتَyou sent بِالكُحلِwith kohl وَهوَand it is صِرفٌpure
وَجَّهتَ بِالكُحلِ وَهوَ صِرفٌ
قَدindeed سَالَhas flowed مِنfrom قُدرَةِthe power of الحَكِيمِthe Wise One
قَد سَالَ مِن قُدرَةِ الحَكِيمِ
You sent kohl, pure and unmixed,
Which has flowed from the power of the Wise One.
لَوif كَحَّلَapplied kohl to النَّاسُthe people مِنهُwith some of it أَعمىَa blind man
لَو كَحَّلَ النَّاسُ مِنهُ أَعمىَ
أَبصَرَhe would see باللَّيلِin the night البَهِيمِpitch-dark
أَبصَرَ باللَّيلِ البَهِيمِ
If people applied it to a blind man's eyes,
He would see in the pitch-dark night.
وَزِدتَand you added فِيto الزَّادِthe provisions فارتَحَلنَاso we departed
وَزِدتَ فِي الزَّادِ فارتَحَلنَا
عَنaway from شُكرِنَاour thanks الرَّاحِلِjourneying المُقِيمِabiding
عَن شُكرِنَا الرَّاحِلِ المُقِيمِ
And you added to the provisions, so we set out,
Leaving our thanks, which journeys yet abides.
فَانعَمso live in bliss وَدُمand remain فِيin سَمَاءِa heaven of مَجدٍglory
فَانعَم وَدُم فِي سَمَاءِ مَجدٍ
مُشرِقَةِradiant الأُفقِthe horizon بالنُّجُومِwith the stars
مُشرِقَةِ الأُفقِ بالنُّجُومِ
So live in bliss, and remain in a heaven of glory,
Whose horizon is radiant with stars.
