وَمَدحِي فِي سمَاعِكُمُ كَذَمِّ
O Abu Hafs, what good does my call do?
Abu Hafs, how futile my call will be
And my praise, to your ears, is like blame.
And my praise in your hearing is muted
إِذَاif بِعتُمyou have traded أُسَامَةَUsama (a name for the lion) بِابنِfor a son of آوَىAwa (ibn Awa means jackal)

فَمَا فَضلُ السَّمِيعِ عَلَى الأَصَمِّ
If you have traded Usama—the lion—for a jackal,
When you sold Usamah, who took refuge
Then what advantage has one who hears over one who is deaf?
No virtue remains for the hearing over the deaf
