And three, when they gathered in company,

Awakened in me an ardor that had not slumbered.

And called, “Come to the morning wine!” and made me yearn,

Through their summons, to meet the cups.

A rose like the blood of the jugular vein, and an iris,

Fresh, clad in fine Sūsī robes.

And a water lily adorns it, its petals

    Silver flowing over smooth green.

Then, when their breaths waft toward you, they cure,

With their delicate fragrance, the burning thirst of souls.

The rose, the iris, and the water lily,

Sweet-scented, stir me and whisper to me.

    فيها من النُوّار أعمُرُ مَجلسي

    They excel in the beauty of their appearance and fragrance;

With these, among the blossoms, I enliven my gathering.
