ربما اغتر للسكوت ظلوم

يحسب الظلم كالرضى وَزياده

يحسب الظلم كالرضى وَزياده

Sometimes a tyrant is deceived by silence,

Perhaps silence is mistaken for oppression

taking oppression for consent, and more.

Oppression seems like consent, even excess

وَهُوَ سر الحَياة اذ وجد المظ

وَهُوَ سر الحَياة اذ وجد المظ

لوم فيه الدوا وَفيه الافاده

لوم فيه الدوا وَفيه الافاده

And it is life's secret, for the oppressed found

Yet it is life's secret- if blame is found

in it the cure, and in it the benefit.

There is harm in it, and benefit lies ahead

غير ان الاناء ان فاض ابدى

غير ان الاناء ان فاض ابدى

ذلك الغر باسه وَعناده

ذلك الغر باسه وَعناده

Yet if the vessel overflows, revealed are

But a vessel, when filled, overflows

that naive man's might and stubbornness.
