أَيُّهاO اللماعshoe-shiner يَمشيwalks مسرعاhurriedly
أَيُّها اللماع يَمشي مسرعا
حامِلاcarrying صندوقهhis box بينbetween يديهhis two hands
حامِلا صندوقه بين يديه
O shoe-shiner who walks in haste,
carrying his box between his hands,
طالباseeking منfrom خائِنa traitor نعلاa shoe وَمنand from
طالبا من خائِن نعلا وَمن
ظالمan oppressor تطليهyou polish it منكباbending over عليهover it
ظالم تطليه منكبا عليه
seeking a shoe from a traitor, and from
an oppressor, to polish it while bending over it.
احفظkeep الحقةthe little pot واحفظand keep ماwhat بهاis in it
احفظ الحقة واحفظ ما بها
انindeed وجهface القومthe people محتاجin need اليهof it
ان وجه القوم محتاج اليه
Keep the little pot, and keep what it holds;
for the face of the people needs it.
