Every star has a rising and a setting.

So it appears in the sky, then vanishes.

And how swiftly it steps toward its eastern gate,

and a messenger precedes it before its rising.

And a bird, however vigorous its flight,

comes down, then rises afterward and circles.

And the trees of the gardens usually put forth new shoots

when withering touches them after ripening.

And in fire is a spirit preparing for vengeance,

whenever rest and dormancy come over it.

And the river floods after dwindling—do you not see

its channels when torrents drench us?

Likewise are the peoples of these lands:

for what was said before is said of them.

If the despot oppresses them through his rule,

and an unjust, ignorant man leads the people,

and becomes like ʿAd or Thamud, then those lands are

laid waste, and those palaces are ruins.

And if the turns of the nights betray them, then

through those they have brought forth, their oppression will not last long.

So they lament, with no one to hear their wailing,

when a wail from them rings in the ears.

Yet they are not content with their life,

and would a noble people be content with hardship?

So it is no wonder that they stretched their henna-dyed hand toward us,

for drums had awakened them in the darkness.

And no wonder that we cried out and said: Our rights

are upheld by the constitution, for it is their guarantor.

So hurrah for it before its arrival! And thus

we may rightly say, before its arrival:

We sought guarantees of life, and it was not

hard for a person to attain and obtain them.

And we marched toward the constitution with justice and loyalty,

so from it—by the truth—we shall not turn away.

they are honey; and as for its shade, it is deep.

And a banner, in whose fluttering you see reform,

and you find favor when its trailing edges touch you.

Beautiful as the gazelle's neck, it grows in splendor

for a lover who gazes at it and inclines toward it.

And under its influence, the gray dove beside me swayed

upon the leaves, and its cooing grew louder.

So how many ardent admirers you have, O constitution,

whom the shameless and the censorious confront!

Yes, in every breast there is love for you,

and among all peoples you have a close friend.

And no guide is needed to the sun of day.

Through you the wound is bandaged; through you the truth is clear,

and from your clear goblet the ailing will be healed.
