مضت الشبيبة والحبيبة فانبرى
دمعانtwo tears فيin الأجفانthe eyelids يزدحمانِthe two jostle each other
دمعان في الأجفان يزدحمانِ
Youth and the beloved have gone; then forth sprang

بمودَّ عين وليس لي قلبانِ
The blows of fate dealt unjustly with me: they struck me
Calamities have not treated me fairly; they struck me
through Muhammad, the apple of my eye—yet I have not two hearts.
