قد تخلَّلتَ مسلكَ الروح مِنّي

قد تخلَّلتَ مسلكَ الروح مِنّي

ولذا سُمِّيَ الخليلُ خليلا

ولذا سُمِّيَ الخليلُ خليلا

You have permeated the pathway of the soul within me.

You have permeated the path of my soul

And thus the Friend was called an intimate friend.

And so the beloved is called the intimate friend

فإذا ما نطقتُ كنتَ حديثي

فإذا ما نطقتُ كنتَ حديثي

وإذا ما سكتُّ كنتَ غليلا

وإذا ما سكتُّ كنتَ غليلا

So whenever I spoke, you were my speech.

So when I speak, you are my words

And whenever I fell silent, you were my burning thirst.

And when I fall silent, you are my anguish
