  1. أنت سُؤالي ومُنيتي

    دُلَّني كيف حيلتي

    You are what I ask for and what I long for.

    Guide me—what recourse have I?

  2. قد تعشَّقتُ وافتضح

    تُ وقامت قيامتي

    I have fallen in love and been laid

    bare, and my day of reckoning has come.

  3. محنتي فيك أنَّني

    لا أُبالي بمحنتي

    My ordeal in loving you is that I

    care nothing for my ordeal.

  4. يا شِفائي من السِقا

    مِ وإن كنت علتي

    O my cure for sick-

    ness, though you are my ailment.

  5. تعبي فيك دائم

    فمتى وقتُ راحتي

    My weariness in loving you is unceasing.

    When, then, will my rest come?

  6. تُبتُ دهراً فمذ عَرَف

    تُكَ ضَيّعت توبتي

    I repented for an age; but since I knew

    you, I have squandered my repentance.

  7. قربُكم مِثلُ بُعدِكم

    فمتى وقتُ راحتي

    Your nearness is like your distance.

    When, then, will my rest come?
