نزلنا السِنَّ نَستَنّا
وفيناوفينا: and among us منمن: one whom ترىترى: you see حَنَّاحَنَّا: he yearned
وفينا من ترى حَنَّا
We alighted at al-Sinn, following the customary way.
We descended to our years, we yearned,
And among us was one you could see yearning.
And in us was, as you see, tenderness,
فلمافلما: then when جَدَّناجَدَّنا: cut us off (uncertain reading) اللّياللّي: beginning of ‘the night,’ continued below
فلما جَدَّنا اللّي
لُلُ: completes ‘the night’ from the preceding line بذلنابذلنا: we offered freely بيننابيننا: among ourselves دَنَّادَنَّا: a wine jar
لُ بذلنا بيننا دَنَّا
Then, when the night cut us off—
When we struggled intensely,
—we shared a wine jar among ourselves.
We gave freely amongst us our closeness.
