وجُبتُ البلاد لِوجدِ القلقُ

I clothed myself for war in the robe of drowning.

And I roamed the lands out of restless longing.

ففيك هتكتُ قِناعَ الغَوِيّ

وعنك نطقتُ لدى من نطق

So, for your sake, I tore away the misguided one's veil.

And I spoke of you before those who spoke.

إذا خاطَبوني بعلمِ الوَرَق

بَرزَتُ عليهم بعلمِ الخِرَق

بَرزَتُ عليهم بعلمِ الخِرَق

When they addressed me with the knowledge of paper,

I surpassed them with the knowledge of rags.
