He has grown so used to opening his hand that, were he
He grew accustomed to extending his palm
to fold it shut, his fingers would not obey him.
Even if he were to close it, his fingers would not respond

كأنَّك تُعطيهِ الذي أنتَ آمِلُهُ
You see him beaming whenever you come to him,
You see him, whenever you come to him joyfully
as though you were giving him what you yourself hope for.
As though you are giving him that which you hope for

And even if his palm held nothing but his soul,
And if there was nothing in his palm but his soul
he would give it freely—so let whoever asks him fear God.
He would give it generously. So let the questioner be mindful of Allah.

He is the sea, from whichever direction you approach him;
He is the sea, no matter which way you come to it
for his depths are kindness, and generosity is his shore.
Its coast is generosity and kindness.
