أَنْباكَhas told you شَاهِدُthe visible part أَمْريof my plight عَنْabout مُغَيَّبِهِits hidden part
أَنْباكَ شَاهِدُ أَمْري عَنْ مُغَيَّبِهِ
وجَدَّand grew earnest جِدُّthe earnestness الهوىof love بيwith me فيin تَلَعُّبِهِits toying
وجَدَّ جِدُّ الهوى بي في تَلَعُّبِهِ
The visible witness of my state has told you what lies hidden in it;
The visible part of my plight has told you of its hidden part.
My tears bear witness to my love though you are absent,
and love’s earnest force has grown grave with me in the midst of its play.
And love was in earnest even as it toyed with me.
My ardent passion finds in me but playful discontent.
ياO نازِحاًdistant one نَزَحتْhas drained دَمْعيmy tears قَطيعَتُهُhis estrangement
يا نازِحاً نَزَحتْ دَمْعي قَطيعَتُهُ
هَبْgrant ليto me مِنَsome of الدَّمْعِthe tears ماthat which أَبْكيI weep عَليْكَfor you بِهِwith it
هَبْ لي مِنَ الدَّمْعِ ما أَبْكي عَليْكَ بِهِ
O distant one, whose estrangement has drained away my tears,
O distant one, whose estrangement has drained my tears,
Oh you who migrated, taking my tears along in your train,
grant me enough tears with which to weep for you.
Grant me some tears with which to weep for you.
Grant me from those tears what I may weep for you again.
