وَبَدْرِand a full moon دُجَىًnight's darkness يَمْشيwalks بِهِwith him غُصُنٌa bough رَطْبُsupple
وَبَدْرِ دُجَىً يَمْشي بِهِ غُصُنٌ رَطْبُ
دَناdrew near نُورُهhis light لَكِنْbut تَناوُلُهُreaching him صَعْبُdifficult
دَنا نُورُه لَكِنْ تَناوُلُهُ صَعْبُ
By a full moon in the darkness, borne along by a tender bough—
And a full moon in night's darkness, borne along by a supple bough;
His light draws near, yet he himself is hard to reach.
His light has drawn near, but reaching him is hard.
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle بَداappeared أَغْرَىenticed بِهِtoward him كُلَّevery نَاظِرٍbeholder
إِذا ما بَدا أَغْرَى بِهِ كُلَّ نَاظِرٍ
كأَنَّas though قُلوبَhearts النّاسِthe people فيin حُبِّهِlove for him قَلْبُa heart
كأَنَّ قُلوبَ النّاسِ في حُبِّهِ قَلْبُ
Whenever he appears, he captivates every beholder,
Whenever he appears, he entices every beholder toward him,
As though all people’s hearts, in love of him, were one.
As though people's hearts were one heart in their love for him.
