ن وأهله نظراً كفاني

Indeed, I looked upon time

I looked at the times and its people with a look that sufficed me

and its people—a look that sufficed me.

So I knew it and I knew them

فعرفته وعرفتهم

فعرفته وعرفتهم

وعرفت عزي من هواني

وعرفت عزي من هواني

So I knew it, and I knew them,

And I knew my dignity from my humiliation

and distinguished my honor from my humiliation.

So for that reason I ignore the friend so he does not see me and I do not see him

فلذاك أطّرح الصد

فلذاك أطّرح الصد

يق فلا أراه ولا يراني

يق فلا أراه ولا يراني

That is why I cast aside the friend:

And I became ascetic towards what is in his hands and less than it, attaining wishes

I do not see him, nor does he see me.

So they were astonished at the defeats

وزهدت فيما في يدي

وزهدت فيما في يدي

ه ودونه نيل الأماني

ه ودونه نيل الأماني

And I renounced what was in his hands,

And I gave the farthest parts to the nearest

and beneath it lies the attainment of wishes.

And I slipped away from between the crowds so it has no second in conquest

فتعجبوا لمغالب

فتعجبوا لمغالب

وهب الأقاصي للأداني

وهب الأقاصي للأداني

So marvel at a contender

who gave the farthest to the nearest,

وانسل من بين الزحا

وانسل من بين الزحا

م فماله في الغلب ثاني

م فماله في الغلب ثاني

and slipped away from amid the crowd:

so he has no equal in victory.
