    Travelers, convey on our behalf

A thousand and two thousand greetings to the one in Tarim,

    Whose stature resembles a bough,

And whose brow is like the full moon.

Consummate in beauty and inner worth,

Languid of gaze, a little turtledove among doves.

And my body is wasted by separation from him,

And my eyes have enjoyed no sleep.

Tell the one who has worn me down:

Let him not think we have forgotten meeting him.

I would ransom him with my being and my wealth,

And my aim is nothing but his pleasure.

By God I swear, and I care not:

I love no one among all creatures but him.

He is my heart's core, and he is the right one

Of my eyes, and he is the marrow of my bones.

If this longing persists in my heart,

It is immense in the morning and immense in the evening.

No doubt my anguish grows within me,

And my heart's longing for the gazelle of Tarim.

In my solitude I asked my Lord

To water Tarim with a torrential downpour,

And that enmity may vanish from it,

With well-being after recovery from sickness.

We have resolved to go to Mecca.

O our brothers, pray for us to attain our desire:

For goodness, good fortune, and blessing,

And a return to where you are, O Su'ad.

You are, in sleep and in motion,

With me, and you dwell within my frame.

If God reunites us, and if we return,

I am bound by a vow to fast for a month.
