ذي شموس الوصل نارت

في أفق فلك السعاده

في أفق فلك السعاده

These suns of union have shone

on the horizon of the sphere of bliss.

بهيا كلها استدارت

بهيا كلها استدارت

بالولاية والسياده

بالولاية والسياده

Radiantly, all of them revolved

with sainthood and sovereignty.

ومواد النيل زادت

ومواد النيل زادت

فوق عادات الزياده

فوق عادات الزياده

And the influxes of attainment have increased

beyond the customary bounds of increase.

وليالي الوصل عادت

وليالي الوصل عادت

وأسعدت قلبي سعاده

وأسعدت قلبي سعاده

And the nights of union have returned

and gladdened my heart with happiness.

من رحيق صهب مروق

من رحيق صهب مروق

The cupbearer filled the cups to the brim

with clarified, tawny nectar.

قلت ارفق ما ترفق

قلت ارفق ما ترفق

عند ما في الراس دارت

عند ما في الراس دارت

I said, 'Be gentle!'—he was not gentle.

When it swirled within my head,

ما بقي رسم وعاده

ما بقي رسم وعاده

والبصيرة قد تراءت

والبصيرة قد تراءت

no trace or habit remained.

And inner sight beheld

عالم الغيب كالشهاده

عالم الغيب كالشهاده

أين عشاقها أين

أين عشاقها أين

the unseen world as the visible world.

Where are its lovers—where?

الهوى ماله نهايه

الهوى ماله نهايه

وعلى مرّ الجديدين

وعلى مرّ الجديدين

Love has no end.

And through the passing of night and day,

لم تنالوا فيه غايه

لم تنالوا فيه غايه

قد سلم من لوعة البين

قد سلم من لوعة البين

you have reached no end in it.

He has escaped the anguish of parting—

من سقى كاس العنايه

من سقى كاس العنايه

فهنا الركبان ناخت

فهنا الركبان ناخت

whoever was given the cup of providence.

Here, then, the riders' camels knelt,

وثنوا عزم الإراده

وثنوا عزم الإراده

شمس قمر المكاسب

شمس قمر المكاسب

and reined in the resolve of their will.

The moon of earned attainments was outshone

حين بدت شمس المواهب

حين بدت شمس المواهب

كم ذهب من ربّ ذاهب

كم ذهب من ربّ ذاهب

when the sun of gifts appeared.

How many a departing master has vanished!

كم حكيم حكمته جارت

كم حكيم حكمته جارت

وهلاكه في اجتهاده

وهلاكه في اجتهاده

How many a sage's wisdom has gone astray,

and his ruin lay in his striving.

ولبيب فكرته حارت

ولبيب فكرته حارت

ووقف رايد مراده

ووقف رايد مراده

And an astute man's thought was bewildered,

and the seeker of his goal came to a halt.

ليس قصدي ترك الأعمال

ليس قصدي ترك الأعمال

لا ولا نقض العزائم

لا ولا نقض العزائم

I do not mean abandoning deeds,

no, nor undoing firm resolves.

إنما قصدي الأفعال

إنما قصدي الأفعال

حسن نية كلّ عازم

حسن نية كلّ عازم

My aim in deeds is only

the good intention of everyone resolved to act,

مع توكله في الأحوال

مع توكله في الأحوال

والرجا في ذي المكارم

والرجا في ذي المكارم

with his trust in every circumstance,

and hope in the Possessor of noble gifts,

وله نفس أنابت

وله نفس أنابت

وعلى اللَه اعتماده

وعلى اللَه اعتماده

and his soul's return in repentance,

and his reliance on God.

كن بربك لا بنفسك

كن بربك لا بنفسك

واحذر استحلاك أنسك

واحذر استحلاك أنسك

Be sustained by your Lord, not by yourself,

and beware of savoring your intimacy;

واطرح جنك وانسك

واطرح جنك وانسك

من لأجل اللَه كانت

من لأجل اللَه كانت

and cast aside your jinn and your fellow humans.

Whoever directed, for God's sake,

نيته وصفا وداده

نيته وصفا وداده

واستقامته استقامت

واستقامته استقامت

his intention, with his affection pure,

and remained steadfast in uprightness,

كان من أفضل عباده

كان من أفضل عباده

was among the best of His servants.
