The doves, my friend, called to mind

    Our bygone days in Zarud.

And how much its lovely grounds offered—

Sweet living and a lovely, bashful maiden!

And will Sulayma preserve for us

What we have known, or generously grant union?

My sorrow and my anxiety vanish together,

And closeness grows sweet after rejection.

By God, what longing fills me!

Were it to settle on lofty mountains, they would turn to sand.

Books and pages bring no relief,

For nothing heals the lovesick except union

With one whose eyes are languid with drowsiness,

Radiant of face, exquisite in beauty,

As though he were the full moon in darkness,

Firmly set [wording unclear], curly-haired, his tresses black.

And how many breaths of grace the ages hold,

From our Lord, contrary to our expectations!

    And sorrow and regrets vanish,

And through reunion, eyes find joy.

And God restores what has been lost,

Contrary to what the deluded suggest.

For God possesses bounty and sustenance,

And His generosity has surpassed all generosity.

And we ask God, Lord of mercy,

That Nasir remain with us in growing abundance,

With a long life and in blessing,

And the serenity of a comfortable, happy life.

Indeed, his noble deeds are abundant,

So grant him, our Lord, what he desires.

And conclude with a blessing filling the horizon,

Upon the Prophet, renewed at every moment.
