بالبعد اللَه بك يعيد
Sweet one, you have made my tears flow;
You made my tears flow, O sweet one,
My tears flowed, O sweet one,
through separation—may God bring you back.
Through separation—may God bring you back.
With separation from you, may God reunite us.
وأسهرتand you kept awake بالليلat night مقلتيmy eye
وأسهرت بالليل مقلتي
والشوقand the longing إليكfor you مزعجunsettling شديدintense
والشوق إليك مزعج شديد
You have kept my eyes awake by night,
And you kept my eye awake at night;
I stayed up at night with my worries,
and longing for you is a fierce torment.
And longing for you is unsettling and fierce.
And my longing for you is extremely disturbing.
أخايلكI picture you طولthroughout ليلتيmy night
أخايلك طول ليلتي
وإنeven if تكنyou are مناfrom us بعيدfar
وإن تكن منا بعيد
I imagine you throughout my night,
I picture you all night long,
I imagined you all night,
though you are far away from us.
Even if you are far from us.
Even though you are far from me.

ومسكنك لبّ مهجتي

وأنا لكم أصغر العبيد
Your dwelling is the very heart of my soul,
And your home is the core of my soul,
And your home occupies my heart,
and I am the lowliest of your servants.
And I am the least of your slaves.
While I am your most humble servant.
روحيmy soul فداa ransom for منthe one who هجرناforsook us

My soul be ransom for the one who forsook us,
My soul is ransom for the one who forsook us,
My soul is sacrificed for those who abandoned us
who possessed us with his beauty,
And who possessed us through his beauty.
And for those whose beauty ruled us,

He engrossed us to the exclusion of every other concern,
Distracting us from all concerns,
though he withdrew or wronged us.
Even if he keeps his distance or wrongs us.
Whether they are close or distant.

ويشتفي الواله العيد
When, oh when shall I meet my beloved,
When, when shall I meet my beloved,
When, when will I meet my beloved,
and this distraught al-ʿĪd be healed?
And the lovesick al-ʿĪd find relief?
And the passionate lover enjoys the holiday?

To the Almighty I brought my complaint,
To the Guardian I address my complaint;
I complained to the All-Dominating,
that He might grant me what I desire.
May He generously grant me what I desire.
May He grant me what I want.

سواك يا ساجي الرنا
I swear, among the fair I love none
I swear, I have no beloved among the fair,
I swore there is no love in harbors
but you, O languid-eyed gazelle,
Except you, O serene of gaze.
Except you, O candle of the lantern.

O languorous one with wide eyes.
O you of languid, wide eyes,
O relaxer of roving eyes,
Meeting you is my utmost desire.
Meeting you is my utmost desire.
Seeing you is the height of wishes.

The sash has adorned the swelling breast,
And the sash has adorned the breast;
Your breast adorned with necklaces
whose pomegranate tempts one to pluck its fruit.
Its pomegranate longs to be plucked.
Like a pomegranate that makes Heaven covetous.

Nothing has cooled my burning passion
Nothing has soothed or cooled my burning anguish
So nothing healed my burning anguish
except sipping the pure nectar of that mouth.
Except sipping pure sweat.
Except sipping the pure white wine.

Hasten to my aid, O Umm Hani,
Come to my aid, O Umm Hani,
I see you, O mother of happiness,
with union, O queen of beauties.
Through union with the mistress of beauties.
With the connection of the mistress of beauty.

The day my eyes behold her
The day when I catch sight
On the day when I can see her,
will be a day of festival.
Of her—that is a day of celebration.
That is a day of celebration.

May God grant joy through her,
And may God gladden me through her
May God make joyful the one
whose morning has ever remained blessed.
Whose morning has always been joyful.
Whose morning has always been happy.

How far is the one dwelling in Aden
And how far is one dwelling in Aden
And who of those settled in Eden,

From the citadel of al-ʿArsh, from Radaʿ!
From the castle of the Throne and its vicinity,

That is what deepened my sorrow
That is what has deepened my sorrow
Increased my passion,
and made anguish swell my pangs.
And added anguish to my burning pangs.
And made my sufferings more intense?

That He may favor us with reunion,
To have mercy on us and reunite us,

By the ruler al-Zafir, the praiseworthy.
From the Owner of Triumph and Praise.
بعامرthrough ʿĀmir اللَهGod عمرناmade us flourish
بعامر اللَه عمرنا
بسعدهthrough his good fortune قدindeed سعدناwe prospered
بسعده قد سعدنا
Through ʿĀmir, God has made our life flourish;
Through ʿĀmir, God has made us flourish.
May God populate our lives
by his good fortune we have prospered.
Through his good fortune we have prospered.
With His bliss, we have prospered,
ووسعand the abundance of جودهhis bounty غمرناengulfed us
ووسع جوده غمرنا
وزادand gave more أغنىenriched وأقنىand endowed with possessions
وزاد أغنى وأقنى
The abundance of his generosity has engulfed us;
And his abundant bounty has engulfed us.
And His abundant gifts overwhelmed us,
he gave still more, enriching and endowing.
And he gave more, enriched us, and endowed us with possessions.
Increasing, enriching and satisfying us.
قدindeed أذهبremoved اللَهGod شدّتيmy hardship
قد أذهب اللَه شدّتي

God has dispelled my distress
God has indeed removed my hardship
God has removed my distress
through his vast, enduring generosity,
Through his vast, far-reaching generosity.
With His vast perpetual generosity.
وزادنيand gave me more فوقbeyond وهمتيmy imagining
وزادني فوق وهمتي

فما على فعله مزيد
and granted me beyond my expectations—
And he gave me more than I had imagined,
And given me more than I hoped for,
nothing could surpass what he has done.
So nothing more can be added to what he has done.
So there is nothing left to add to His deeds.
