Perhaps the sorrows will depart.

So my sorrows may vanish

that my sorrows might fade away?

فبعدك قد أسقمني

وقد جدّد الأحزان

وقد جدّد الأحزان

For your absence has made me ill,

For after you I have fallen ill

For your distance has made me ill

And has revived the sorrows.

And renewed are my grieves

and renewed all my grief.

عليّ ندر اذا جاني

بشير بمحبوبي

I am bound by a vow: if there comes to me

Scarce are the tidings that come my way

I make a solemn vow: if there comes

A bearer of glad tidings of my beloved,

Heralding my beloved

a bringer of good tidings about my beloved,

سأوهبه أعياني

إذا نلت مطلوبي

إذا نلت مطلوبي

I shall give him my eyes,

I will give him my soul

I will gift him my very eyes

If I attain what I desire.

When will we make merry in bliss?

When will God bring me close

When will we revel in blissful delight?

When will God draw me near

To the one I love from afar

When will God bring me close

بواد النقا والبان

بواد النقا والبان

ويذهب بهم ريني

ويذهب بهم ريني

In the valley of sandhills and ban trees,

And take away all my grief

in the valley of pure dunes and ben trees,

And through them clear the rust from my heart?

For He is the Giver, the Most Kind

and through them wash away the stain of my sorrow?

فهو المعطى المنان

فهو المعطى المنان

For He is the Giver, the Bestower of grace.

For He is the Giver, the All-Bounteous.
