    مذ جادت سلمى بالوصول

    Signs of acceptance shone forth to me,

    From the two hands of a coy, long-necked beauty.

  3. من راح معلق كميت

    صهباء مسلسل شمول

    Of wine, suspended and dark red,

    Tawny, linked in a chain, an all-embracing wine.

  4. شا سكر لي وشا موتى عشقا

    في حبي لا أستمع عذولي

    Intoxication shall be mine, and I shall die of love.

    In my love, I do not heed my reproacher.

  5. حلالي في حبهم سقامي

    حلالي في حبهم نحولي

    My sickness in loving them is sweet to me.

    My wasting in loving them is sweet to me.

  6. أهواهم وان أبوا وصالي

    لا خير في عاشق ملولي

    I love them even if they refuse union with me.

    There is no good in a lover quick to tire.

  7. يا عربا حلوا بأرض حزوى

    هل يحلو بحبكم حلولي

    O Arabs settled in the land of Hazwa,

    Will my stay grow sweet through loving you?

  8. يا رعيا حلول ضال حزوى

    كم دم قد طلّ في الطلول

    O flock dwelling among Hazwa's wild lote trees,

    How much blood has gone unavenged among the ruins!

  9. هبوا لي يا ساكنين حزوى

    هبوا لي من فضلكم هبوا لي

    Give to me, O dwellers of Hazwa;

    Give to me from your bounty—give to me.

  10. تغفر لي بجودكم ذنوبي

    تحمل لي بفضلكم فضولي

    May my sins be forgiven me through your generosity;

    May my excesses be tolerated through your grace.

  11. مقصودي أنتم بلا شريك

    مأمولي أنتم وكلّ سولي

    You are my aim, with no partner.

    You are my hope and all I desire.

  12. كيف أظمأ ووبلكم غديق

    هل أظمأ ومنكم نهولي

    How can I thirst when your downpour is abundant?

    Can I thirst when my drink comes from you?

  13. هل يقصد سواكم كريما

    هل يشفى بغيركم غليلي

    Could a generous benefactor other than you be sought?

    Can my burning thirst be quenched by anyone but you?

  14. إلهي أنت الغنيّ حقا

    كن للعبد البائس الذليل

    My God, you are truly the Self-Sufficient.

    Be there for the wretched, lowly servant.

  15. إلهي أنت الرّحيم فأفضل

    علينا بفضلك الجزيل

    My God, you are the Merciful, so be generous

    To us with your abundant bounty.

  16. إلهي بحقّ سرّ طه

    الشافع في الموقف الطويل

    My God, for the sake of Taha's mystery,

    The intercessor at the prolonged gathering,

  17. ارحمنا وكن بنا رؤوفا

    واسترنا بسترك الجميل

    Have mercy on us, and be compassionate toward us.

    And veil us with your beautiful covering.

  18. وسلم مع الصلاة تترا

    عليه ذي المنصب الجليل

    And send peace, together with blessings, unceasingly,

    Upon him, who holds the exalted station.
