O dawn breeze, have you any news

From the dear Arab folk in the valley of al-Munhana?

For meeting them, or attained my wishes.

Through the witness of tears and wasting sickness.

O moon above a bough springing from a dune,

Your delays and promises have made me ill.

Ah, may God preserve those dear nights of meeting!

If only they would return, O my beloved!

A night of bliss, with no misery in it—

How could it be wretched, with lucky stars in its ascendant?

Its clarity is untainted by murk,

    With contentment, joy, and bliss.

How can you deny union with you, O beloved,

To one who loves you and looks to none but you?

I know no physician for my illness

Except a sweet kiss from your dusky lips.

Be mindful of God, and return soon,

Before my frail body perishes in love for you.

If the reproacher saw your face, he would excuse me

For the state I am in, once he beheld your beauty.
