يا خير من يستناب

يا خير من يستناب

وخير من يدعي لأمر يطرى

وخير من يدعي لأمر يطرى

O best of those entrusted to act in another's stead,

O best of those called upon

And best of those called upon for a matter that arises,

And best of those who pray for that which transpires

وخير مدعى فجاب

وخير مدعى فجاب

يا من سرى لِلّه خير مسرى

يا من سرى لِلّه خير مسرى

And best of those invoked, who then answered,

And best of those whose prayers were answered

O you who made the finest night journey for God,

O you who set out for God in the best setting out

حتى رفع له حجاب

حتى رفع له حجاب

وكلم اللَه العظيم جهرا

وكلم اللَه العظيم جهرا

Until a veil was lifted for him,

Until the veil was lifted for him

And spoke aloud to God the Magnificent,

And spoke openly to God, the Almighty

وشرّفه بالخطاب

وشرّفه بالخطاب

وأرسله للعالمين طرّا

وأرسله للعالمين طرّا

And He honored him by addressing him,

And honored him with discourse

And sent him to all the worlds.

And sent him as mercy to the worlds

أمسى يقدح شراب

أمسى يقدح شراب

من خمرة المعنى وليس خمرا

من خمرة المعنى وليس خمرا

He came to pour a drink

He spent the evening sipping

From the wine of meaning, not literal wine.

From the chalice of meaning, not wine

سألت ذاك الجناب

سألت ذاك الجناب

نظرة إغاثه باطنا وظهرا

نظرة إغاثه باطنا وظهرا

I asked that exalted presence

I asked of that noble one

For a glance of succor, inwardly and outwardly,

A glance of salvation, inwardly and outwardly

وحالة تستطاب

وحالة تستطاب

ونعمة الدّنيا وسعد الأخرى

ونعمة الدّنيا وسعد الأخرى

And a state found pleasing,

And a state that is approved

And the blessing of this world and the bliss of the next.

And worldly bounty and fortunes of the hereafter
