وطعمتand I tasted الفراقseparation حلوsweet المذاقthe taste
Long has been my longing for the beautiful beloved.
To my beloved, so beautiful, my longing grew long
And I have tasted separation, sweet to the taste.
And I tasted the sweet flavor of separation
قدindeed فنىhas vanished جملتيmy whole being بهthrough him فاستوىso became alike ليto me
حالتاthe two states of وصلتيmy union بهwith him أوor فراقيmy separation
My whole being has vanished through him; alike to me are
My whole being was consumed with love for him, so it was the same to me
The two states: my union with him or my separation.
Whether we were united or apart
عشقتيmy love فيهمfor them بهمthrough them لاnot بنفسيthrough my own self
فاستوىso became alike عنديto me الجفاestrangement والتلاقيand meeting
My love for them is through them, not through myself;
I loved him for his own sake, not for mine
So estrangement and meeting have become alike to me.
So his rejection or acceptance were equal to me

He merits love for every perfection;
He deserves all love, with every perfection
So love for him is a duty through giving.
Loving him is an obligation, a debt to be paid

How could one who is generous not deserve it?
How could one so generous not deserve
He merits it through gifts and provisions.
To be deserved of gifts and provisions

فمجازso it is figurative وليسand is not باستحقاقby right
Every beauty belonging to another is from him;
Every beauty in another comes from him
Thus it is figurative, not theirs by right.
So it is a metaphor, not real credit

Every beauty, however great its loveliness,
Every beauty, though it grows more beautiful
Is from the outpouring of his grace, O my companions.
Comes from the overflow of his grace, my friends

Whoever loves the perishable will perish;
One who loves the ephemeral will fade away
The end of his course is obliteration.
In the end it leads to annihilation
