If you are at ease and your heart is light,

And sleep has left you without distress,

And you, O my master, long for evening conversation

To recall days of union and dispel sorrow,

    Then this is the place and time, and affection is pure;

And worry and grief—may they never return—have departed.

    Come! Welcome—welcome to you all!

For time, O beloved, has been generous with union.

And the cup of love passed round, undiluted, and made us drunk.

May he who tasted love and then sobered up not live!

And may the one drunk on it enjoy a sweet life forever,

And may he who has not tasted a cup of its unmixed wine meet disappointment.

How sweet is union, but for what clouds it—

Separation, whose mention has wounded the heart.
