الموت يهدم ما الآمال تبنيه

والغيب غيب وليس المرء يدريه

Death destroys what hopes have built

The unseen is unseen, man cannot know it

نضحي ونمسي ولا ندري بغايته

لِلّه فينا قضاء سوف يقضيه

We live and forget, not knowing the end

To God is a decree in us He will execute

لِلّه درّ امرئ دبر عواقبه

وليس يدخل فيما ليس يعنيه

To God belongs the affair of a man, the consequence of his deeds

And does not enter into what does not concern him

يبدي القناعة في أحواله أبداً

فلا يردّ كريم قطّ راجيه

He shows contentment in all his states

So a generous man never rejects his beseecher

من لازم الباب لا يعدم لمولجه

وكل ما هو له حتماً سيأتيه

Whoever sticks to the door will not lack a refuge

And all that is destined for him will come to him

في كلّ نفس يريك اللَه قدرته

فالمح بعين الذكا معنى تجليه

In every soul, God shows you His power

So understand the meaning of His manifestation with a discerning eye

بالقبض والبسط يعرف حكم قدرته

تعرّفا منه فيما فيك يجريه

By giving and withholding you recognize the wisdom of His power

Know Him through what He causes to flow in you

وفي تقلب قلب يا فتى عجب

في لمحة الطرف يغضبه ويرضيه

And in the changing of the heart, oh youth, lies a wonder

In the blink of an eye it angers and pleases Him

وكم شواهد تشهدها محققة

فكيف ينكر أخا الجهل باريه

And how many examples bear witness, realized

So how can the ignorant deny the Creator?

أو ينكر الحشر لا عقل له أبداً

معيده ربه اذ كان مبديه

Or deny the Resurrection, for he has no mind at all

Bringing him back when his Lord was his origin

ان وفق اللَه عدباً فهو يشهده

نور اليقين وللايمان يهديه

If God grants success to a servant, He bears witness to him

With the light of certainty and guides him to faith

لا تطلب الحق في كون تشاهده

فيما يشاهده فيه سيكفيه

Do not seek the truth in what you behold

What you behold in it will suffice you

ومن عرف نفسه فادته معرفة

إن المهيمن ينشره ويطويه

And he who knows himself, knowing benefits him

For the All-Compelling spreads him out and folds him up

أما ترى العبد في أحواله أبداً

ان شاء يفقره أو شاء يغنيه

Do you not see the servant in all his states

If He wills, He impoverishes him or if He wills, enriches him

أما ترى العبد في أحواله أبداً

إن شاء يسعده أو شاء يشقيه

Do you not see the servant in all his states

If He wills, He grants him bliss or if He wills, misery

يحب أشيا ولا نستطيع نفعلها

ونفعل أشيا قهرا ليس يرضيه

He loves things and we cannot accomplish them

And we accomplish things against our will

هذا دليل على التحقيق أن له

ربا يدبر مهما شاءه فيه

This is proof that He

Has a Lord who decrees whatever He wills in him

يا ربّ يا ربّ يا من لا يماثله

ربّ ولا جود ذي جود يدانيه

O Lord, O Lord, none equates to You

Lord, no generosity equals Yours

اغفر لعبد على الاسلام نشأته

يرجوك صدقاوان خابت مساعيه

Forgive a servant raised on Islam

Who hopes in You sincerely though his efforts fail

اغفر لعبد على الاسلام فطرته

يدعوك حقاً وان جلت مساويه

Forgive a servant created on Islam

Who calls on You truthfully though his paths are distant

يا سامع القول هذا الدرّ منتظم

ان قلّ لفظاً فقد زادت معانيه

O Hearer of words, this pearl well-strung

If few in diction, abundant in meaning

ثم الصلاة على المختار من مضر

ما شقّ رتق الدجا بالبرق شاريه

Then blessings upon the Chosen One from Mudar

When the clouds split with lightning glorifying Him
