And each strives, according to what is in him, toward his like,
Each strives according to his own purpose,
And recognizes those of worth by how affairs turn out.
And the wise know the outcomes of affairs.

Beware of scrutiny and investigation, young man,
Beware of prying and searching, my son,
For many a fair appearance displeases you when put to the test.
For many a fair sight may bring you ill report.

And many a cloud's thunder brings delight,
And many a cloud, though its thunder delights,
Yet it has no rain in what it undertakes.
Has no rain for that which it tries.

So trust in God and keep to His side,
So trust in God and keep to His side,
For He has said: after hardship, there must be ease.
For after hardship comes ease, He has said.

All creatures obey His command,
Obedient in the benefit He decrees or the harm.
In benefit or harm He ordains.

Have good expectations about what you seek;
Think good thoughts of what you desire,
So never think that evil is quenched by evil.
Do not reckon evil is quenched with evil.

Yes, bring a fire, then another beside it,
Bring fire, then fire beside it
To put them both out? Rather, both grow fiercer in flame.
To quench them - no, they will rise in flame.

And hold fast to contentment, for it may happen
Be content, cling to acceptance, perhaps
That a man disobeys you; accept him if he comes with an excuse.
One you spurn will offer excuse, so accept it.

بلىindeed أنتyou مليومto blame كماas ضقتyou felt burdened بالسرby the secret
So someone entrusted with a secret has divulged it—why blame him?
A secret was placed in trust, betrayed -
Indeed, you are to blame, as you could not bear the secret.
Yet you blame not him, but yourself, vexed by it.
