The daisy has come with the violet—so drink

upon the two amid the lush gardens.

This one is like a beloved with his lover, while that one

is like a grieving man, his tears streaming.

You see the daisy as though it were a jewel,

yellow, borne by soft white hands.

Fearing the watchman, she has veiled her forearms

in green brocade mantles, yet revealed silver.

Gold coursed through her, beautifying her form,

like the image of a beloved suffering from illness.

And it is as though that gold upon her cheek and throat

appears plainly to us as the lingering traces of a bite.
