O peerless one among men of letters, beyond dispute,

And you who have become, in understanding, a blazing fire,

The verse reached me, wondrous in its composition,

And dispelled from me every vexing matter.

Glory to the garden's rose, for it has reached the goal,

Through marvels from your alert mind.

The rose upon the cheeks, to me, is precious,

And preeminent, however compared or beheld.

    It is last, yet first place belongs to it;

How many a latecomer has won the glory of one favored!

And I have relied on what I have learned

In your verse, which puts the wording of words to shame.

And I unsealed it—yellow, its light dazzles

The pupils of eyes with steady gazes.
