A youth who surpassed all mankind in generosity and valor,

A youth beyond all peers in valour's might,

whose neighbor is honored and whose grounds are verdant.

Dear to his neighbors, green of glance and site,

In peace, you see a rain of generosity from him,

Whose clouds of bounty rain in days of peace,

and on the day of battle, a lion of the forest.

And lion fierce when perils round him press;

When he draws his keen sword for war,

You'd deem, whenas he draws his blade for fray,

he shows you lightning in the palm of the cloud.

Flame in a lowering cloud his hand to play.
