كم من فتىً تُحمَدُ أخلاقُهُ

كم من فتىً تُحمَدُ أخلاقُهُ

وتسكنُ الأحرارُ في ذمّتهْ

وتسكنُ الأحرارُ في ذمّتهْ

Many a young man whose character is praised,

How many a youth of exemplary morals,

and in whose protection free men rest secure,

In whom the free find sanctuary,

قد كثَّرَ الحاجبُ أعداءَهُ

قد كثَّرَ الحاجبُ أعداءَهُ

وأحقدَ الناسَ على نعمتهْ

وأحقدَ الناسَ على نعمتهْ

has had his enemies multiplied by the chamberlain,

Has multiplied his own adversaries,

who has made people resent his good fortune.

And caused the envious to abhor his fortune.
