مَن مُنصفي من مَعشَرٍ

مَن مُنصفي من مَعشَرٍ

كَثُروا عليَّ وكَثَّرُوا

كَثُروا عليَّ وكَثَّرُوا

Who will do me justice against a company

who have grown numerous against me, and multiplied?

صادفتُهم وأرى الخرو

صادفتُهم وأرى الخرو

جَ من الصداقة يَعسُرُ

جَ من الصداقة يَعسُرُ

I met them, and I see that getting out

of friendship is difficult,

كالخطِّ يسهل في الطُّرو

كالخطِّ يسهل في الطُّرو

س ومَحوُهُ مُتَعَذِّرُ

س ومَحوُهُ مُتَعَذِّرُ

like writing, which is easy upon the sheets,

yet erasing it is impossible.

وإذا أردتُ كَشَطتُه

وإذا أردتُ كَشَطتُه

لكنَّ ذاك يُؤَثَّرُ

لكنَّ ذاك يُؤَثَّرُ

And if I wish, I scrape it off,

but that bears a mark.
