على المُصطفى المُختار من آل هاشمٍ

على المُصطفى المُختار من آل هاشمٍ

صلاة الذي فينا أقامَ به الشَّرعا

صلاة الذي فينا أقامَ به الشَّرعا

Upon the chosen, elect one from the house of Hashim,

Blessings upon the Chosen One from the family of Hashim

be the blessing of Him who established the sacred law among us through him.

Prayers upon the one who established the Law among us

علمنا بحمد اللَه أن نبينا

علمنا بحمد اللَه أن نبينا

أجلُّ الورى أصلاً وأزكاهُمُ فرعا

أجلُّ الورى أصلاً وأزكاهُمُ فرعا

We have learned, praise be to God, that our Prophet

We praise Allah that He taught us our Prophet

is the noblest of creation in root, and the purest of them in branch.

Is the most noble of creation in lineage and character

علينا به حصنٌ حصين فحسبُنا

علينا به حصنٌ حصين فحسبُنا

بأنَّا رعايا وهي أضحى لنا يرعى

بأنَّا رعايا وهي أضحى لنا يرعى

Through him, a strong fortress stands over us; it suffices us

Through him we have a fortress, a stronghold

that we are subjects, and it has come to tend us.

It suffices us that we are his followers and he watches over us

علِقنا بحَبلٍ من حبالِ محمَّدٍ

علِقنا بحَبلٍ من حبالِ محمَّدٍ

أَمنَّا به في ديننا الوَهنَ والصدعا

أَمنَّا به في ديننا الوَهنَ والصدعا

We clung to a rope among the ropes of Muhammad;

We hold fast to the rope of Muhammad

through it, we were safe in our faith from weakness and rupture.

Through it we are safe in our religion from weakness and schism

عقيدتُنا قد أُحكِمت بولايةٍ

عقيدتُنا قد أُحكِمت بولايةٍ

دفعنا بها ضرّاً ونلنا بها نفعاً

دفعنا بها ضرّاً ونلنا بها نفعاً

Our creed has been firmly secured through allegiance;

Our creed is made firm by loyalty

through it we repelled harm, and through it we gained benefit.

We repel harm through it and attain benefit

عَصمنا به من كلِّ شركٍ وربية

عَصمنا به من كلِّ شركٍ وربية

فطوبى لمن ألقى إلى قوله السَّمعا

فطوبى لمن ألقى إلى قوله السَّمعا

He protected us through him from all idolatry and usury;

It protects us from all polytheism and falsehood

so blessed is whoever gives ear to his word.

Happy is he who listens to his words

عفا اللَه عنَّا مُذ رجعنا لأمرهِ

عفا اللَه عنَّا مُذ رجعنا لأمرهِ

ونرجُوا أماناً إذ إلى ربنا الرُّجعى

ونرجُوا أماناً إذ إلى ربنا الرُّجعى

God has pardoned us since we returned to His command;

May Allah forgive us since we returned to his cause

and we hope for safety, for to our Lord is the return.

And we hope for safety as to our Lord is the return

علمنا له المدحَ الذي راقَ نظمُهُ

علمنا له المدحَ الذي راقَ نظمُهُ

مهما رِقَةً قد فاقت الوشي من صنعا

مهما رِقَةً قد فاقت الوشي من صنعا

We have learned praise in his honor, delightful in its verse;

We know the praise that suits his excellent verse

however delicate, it has surpassed the brocade of Sana'a.

However subtle, it surpasses the expert artisan's work

عداهُ لدى الدارين قد خابَ سعيهم

عداهُ لدى الدارين قد خابَ سعيهم

كفى اللَه من ولاه من خيبةٍ المعنى

كفى اللَه من ولاه من خيبةٍ المعنى

His foes' efforts have failed in both abodes;

Those who oppose him, their endeavors fail

God has spared the afflicted one loyal to him from disappointment.

Allah suffices him against those disappointed

عكفتُ على مدحي له متيقنا

عكفتُ على مدحي له متيقنا

بدفعِ خطوبٍ لا أطبقُ لها دفعا

بدفعِ خطوبٍ لا أطبقُ لها دفعا

I have devoted myself to praising him, certain

I am occupied praising him, certain

of averting calamities against which I can mount no defense.

That I repel adversities which I cannot repel
