Through him, that blessed frontier has ever remained

Guarded from enemies, sweet to kiss.

He is the mountain; when he speaks, the torrent flows down from him,

And no wonder at a torrent coming from on high.

Poetry envies it—and how could it not?

For your praise is indeed recited within it whenever it is declaimed.

It has raised my beacon, so Imru’ al-Qays envies me

For it; enough for me that it is about you, and mine.

In its beauty, it slaps, with verse’s palm, the nape of

“Halt, you two; let us weep over the memory of a beloved and a dwelling.”
