Sol 6.1

  1. شفاعة خير المرسلين ذخيرةٌ

    إذا نحنُ خِفنا يوم ميقاتنا فُحشا

    The intercession of the best of messengers is a treasure,

    when we fear grievous evil on the day appointed for us.

  2. شَجاني شوقي للنبيِّ محمد

    فلو زرته أُمّنتُ من كلّ ما أخشى

    My longing for the Prophet Muhammad grieves me;

    so, if I visited him, I would be safeguarded from all I fear.

  3. شفاءٌ غليلِ القلبِ لثمُ تُرابِهِ

    وبرد جوى بين الجوانحِ والأَحشا

    Kissing his dust cures the heart’s burning thirst

    and cools the anguish within the ribs and entrails.

  4. شعاعُ محيَّاهُ الكريم يروُقُ مَن

    رآه فكم جلى دُجى الليَّل إذ يَغشا

    The radiance of his noble face delights whoever

    sees him—how often it has dispelled night’s darkness as it falls!

  5. شفيعُ الورى والنار تأخذ كلَّ من

    تعاطى على حكم الهوى الظُّلم والفُحشا

    He is humankind’s intercessor, while the Fire seizes all who

    commit injustice and indecency under desire’s rule.

  6. شهدنا بأن اللَه أسرى بجسمهِ

    إلى أن رأى الكُرسيَّ في الأُفقِ والعرشا

    We bear witness that God took him bodily by night,

    until he saw the Seat on the horizon and the Throne.

  7. شمائله قد أعجزت كل شاعِرٍ

    فلم يستَطعها لا الكمُيتُ ولا الأعشى

    His qualities have proved beyond every poet’s powers,

    so neither al-Kumayt nor al-A‘sha could do them justice.

  8. شغفنا به حباً بلغنا به هُدى

    أَمِنّا به مكرا نسينا به غشَّا

    We are consumed with love for him; through him we have attained guidance.

    Through him we are safe from scheming; through him we have forgotten deceit.

  9. شكرتُ إلها قد هداني لمدحه

    لإدراك امرٍ حينَ أستودَعُ النَّعشا

    I thanked God, who guided me to praise him,

    to attain an aim when I am laid upon the bier.

  10. شعاري حسنُ الظنّ باللَه لم أزلَّ

    ومدحُ نبيٍّ طاهِر الخيمِ والمنشَا

    My watchword is to think well of God—I have not strayed—

    and to praise a Prophet pure in character and origin.
