On you, after God, I rely.

For you have never ceased to hold my hand.

You won me over when you became my support,

And so you, my lord, are my support.

You, despite my poor condition, are always

More compassionate than a father toward a father.

You raised my standing after obscurity, and I had

Been like a stranger in my own land.

You made me renowned, when the friend became—because of what

He sees—an enemy out of envy of me.

    And since I found my way—or came—to

Your door, I have needed no one.

My lord, one calls upon you with a hope

In you that is fair, and a good opinion of you.

So do not entrust him to another—and who

Is there besides you, after the Guardian, the Eternal Refuge?

O you who end the injustice of this age, indeed

My times have sapped my arm's strength through injustice.

And if my woolen cloak were sold, I would have

Nothing with which my body could be covered afterward.

It makes my body colder, and I am not like one

Who says, 'Oh, how cool it is upon my liver!'
