My patience and sleep have departed since he departed—
My patience and composure have passed
a full moon in the dark, borne by a bān-tree bough.
Since the bright moon of Ban disappeared

After our separation I found in him
a valiant longing and a cowardly solace.
Courage and calm, a bold yet gentle man

Seeking in me safety and refuge
